“Published six times a year, the Community College Journal features articles by leading experts, opinions that put the news in perspective, coverage of higher education issues, and profiles of the field's leaders. Every issue covers news and information from a national network of colleges, providing the latest surveys,practices, and innovations.”

Publishes scholarly articles, case studies, models, research, analyses, and literature reviews on the contemporary problems and issues that affect professionals at this educational level.

Publishes original research papers in the fields of community and junior college education and the social and behavioral sciences.

“Since 1988, Community College Week has been the independent source of in-depth information for and about two-year college faculty, administrators and trustees.” Published biweekly.

Directed towards “presidents, vice presidents, deans, and other leaders in today's open-door institutions,” each issue focuses on a particular theme. Examples include: “Community College Missions in the 21st Century,” Academic Pathways To and From the Community College,” “Benchmarking: An Essential Tool for Assessment, Accountability, and Improvement,” “Latino Educational Opportunity.” Published 4 times a year.

Accessible through Library and Information Science Abstracts (LISA). LISA is only accessible on campus in the School of Library and Information Studies Computer Lab on the 4th floor of Helen C. White.

“Community & Junior College Libraries is a refereed journal especially for professionals working in academic and technical libraries, learning or media centers, library training programs, and library organizations. The journal's focus is on the distinctive, dynamic nature of learning resources centers in two-year colleges. The professional contributions being made by these colleges are highlighted. Contributors to this fundamental resource present profiles of LRCs around the country and address news of special relevance—legislation, systems development, and various concerns faced by professionals in the libraries and information centers of two-year colleges.”

Associations/Organizations

Formed in 1920, The American Association of Community Colleges is the primary advocacy organization for the nation's community colleges.

The purpose of the Community and Junior College Libraries Section (CJCLS) is to contribute to library service and librarianship through those activities which relate to libraries and learning resources centers and services and which support the educational programs in community and junior colleges and equivalent institutions. Access to: CJCLS Newsletter current edition and archives, subscribe to their listserv, keep up with conference and committee activities and find volunteer opportunities. We host conferences and institutes, develop Web resources, conduct research, produce publications, provide services, and lead projects and initiatives with our member colleges, corporate partners, and other agencies in our continuing efforts to make a positive difference for students and communities.”

You can download their book, Keeping America’s Promise for free. The book consists of a “series of short working briefs about the changing characteristics of the community college student population, about the escalating demand for postsecondary education in the knowledge economy, about changes in the way Americans are going to college, and about gaps that exist across groups in both educational access and educational attainment. All of the papers address implications for community colleges. Complementing these pieces is a discussion guide for community college leaders and trustees and for state policymakers, focused on ways higher education policy may either support or thwart the American promise of opportunity and equity.”

Based at the Education Commission of the States in Denver, Colorado. The Center has been created to support the creation of public policy that encourages the development of effective and innovative community colleges across the United States.

Profiles of community and junior colleges.

The Council for the Study of Community Colleges (CSCC) is an affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). The Council contribute to the development of preservice and in-service education for community college professionals, and conducts and disseminates research pertaining to community colleges.
